Beezus and Ramona

  How This Book Was Made
The author is Beverly Cleary and the illustrator is Louis Darling. The Avon Books,Inc. published this wonderful book. The date of publication for "Beezus and Ramona" was May 1990. When this book took place is unknown because it is a fiction story, but this facinating story took place at the Quimby family's house.

The Main Characters
The main characters are Beatrice (Beezus), Ramona, and Mrs. Quimby. They are also the protagonists, and there are no antagonists. Now for the sidekicks! The back-up child for Ramona is Howie (Ramona's friend), and the sidekick of Beezus is Mrs.Quimby.

Character Descriptions
Beezus' real name is Beatrice. She was named after her mother's favourite sister, Aunt Beatrice. Beezus is nine years old and has a four-year-old sister, Ramona. The Quimby sisters fight a lot and in the end, they always try to resolve the problems they've had in the past. That certainly is a relief!

Ramona has the habit of doing the most unpredictable, annoying, embarrasing and hilarious things in the whole, wide world!Sometimes, Beezus feels guilty for not loving pesky, little Ramona like she was supposed to. Funny Ramona just doesn't seem lovable to poor Beezus.

Howie is a four-year-old boy that has been Ramona's friend since they were very little. That's because Mrs. Kelp (Howie's mother) and Mrs. Quimby (Ramona's mother) have been friends even before the two, annoying children were born! Howie and Ramona sometimes have arguments about who's smarter and little details that don't need big fusses, but those two pests always forgive each other sooner or later.

Mrs. Quimby is a very caring, and loving mother and wife. She is talented in backing up Beezus and Ramona at the same time. She convinced her husband to call their older daughter Beezus, instead of Beatrice. Beatrice's name changed to Beezus when Ramona first learned to talk, Ramona called her Beezus. Mrs. Quimby loves her family, but becomes very stressed when her daughters argue or fight.

Opinions
I love this book because the Quimby family is a lot like my family. I like this book because it is funny, has lots of action, and a good plot. I truely don't have any reasons to hate this funny, well-written book!

I want to recommend this book to kids ages eight to eleven. "Beezus and Ramona gives you a hint of what other families are like. Whether they are different in some ways or similar in other ways. This book is suitable for children who like funny stories and books!

Summary Of Beezus And Ramona
Beezus thought that her sister, Ramona was her biggest problem. Once, she was playing with her finger paints and Ramona wiped her fingers on the neighbour's cat! That was the kind of exasperating things Ramona did. While Beezus was sewing, Ramona was riding her tricycle around the coffee table in the living room. Since she needed both hands to steer, she blew in and out on her harmonica on the same note as if the harmonica was groaning, "Oh dear, Oh dear!"  Beezus then got so angry that she made a bargain to read a book called "The Littlest  Stream Shovel" to Ramona so that she could stop annoying Beezus.

Henry Huggins, Beezus, friend, came over th the Quimby's to have a couple games of checkers with Beezus.  Ramona was then back to work on her tricycle. She was asked asked not to bother henry and Beezus, but she decided to try anyways. Bad idea. Ramona pedalled backwards from the coffee table and WHAM! Checker pieces, and the play board went flying and the table lay on its side. Ramona had a tantrum, put Henry's dog, Ribsy in the washroom.

It was the day of Beezus' birthday and Beezus thought the day had been perfect. Packages by her plate at breakfast, a new dress to wear, and her class sang "Happy Birthday!" just for her! How perfect! But the best part was that Aunt Beatrice was coming for dinner! Mother had not baked the cake when Beezus was at school because it was a day nothing seemed to get done.
After lunch, Mother started the cake, creamed the sugar and butter in the electric mixer until the phone rang. When Mother came back to the kitchen, she found that Ramona had dropped all the eggs (shells included) into the batter and started the mixer. Mother started a new cake and Beezus felt better. Then she heard the oven door open and close. Beezus thought Mother was checking the cake. All of a sudden, something smelled like scorching rubber.
Beezus checked on her cake, and saw Bendix, Ramona's doll in her wonderful cake! Mother quickly phoned Aunt Beatrice to ask her to bring a cake. Aunt Beatrice came and played and chatted about when they were young and they all had a wonderful time.
